Summer Studio Class

IT’S BACK

Everybody in the pool! This studio class is open to all stringed instruments, all levels, and will follow the usual format of 2 or 3 students working with faculty per class session while the other students observe and learn by watching. Enrollment is capped at 6, to ensure each player receives enough individual attention.

Format: students bring whatever they are working on. Studies and excerpts are fine, as are larger pieces. Faculty will work with students to offer support and guidance to make playing technically sound, more musical, and more comfortable. You are welcome to bring in a specific problem or longstanding issue with a piece. Note: new pieces are welcome, but you should have the notes largely learned before the first session.

About all levels education: I’ve chosen to make this an all levels class to offer students the opportunity to benefit from the variety of instructional approaches that comes with a mixed cohort. Players who are closer to the beginning of their journeys will be exposed to new ideas and get a sense of what it takes to reach their goals. More advanced players will notice that many of the fundamentals beginners work with have the same underpinnings as their own issues. This mimics the experience many professionals had during their development, where they were in classes and ensembles with a wide range of skill levels. It benefits everyone.
