Introducing our intern!

Since our first program in the summer of 2021, Tamarack has slowly but steadily grown in every way but one: it’s still largely me running everything. Of course, as more courses are added and the scope of the mission becomes more ambitious, it’s gotten difficult to keep an eye on all of the different tasks. Combined with a disastrous move to a new house at the new year, and I felt in real danger of things beginning to get out of control.

We put out a call for intern applications about a month ago, and after interviewing s few wonderful candidates, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to our lovely intern Sienna! We met to seal the deal at a local cafe, and I was charmed by her maturity, enthusiasm, and candor. 15 minutes into our meeting we were already talking about desert island movies, skincare, and the importance of tater tots. She’ll be handling some of the social media and marketing stuff through the beginning of the summer, and I hope you’ll enjoy interacting with her!

Q&A with intern Sienna

Q: How long have you played violin?

A: I have been playing the violin for 6 years, and I started in 5th grade. I wanted to play in 2nd grade but my parents insisted on trying the piano at first. Turns out that I loved the violin after all!

Q: What piece always gives you feels?

A: My favorite piece is Swan Lake Suite, Op 20: Scéne. I am also a competitive dancer and love ballet. So this piece has a deep place in my heart.

Q: What was the last thing you practiced?

A:  My school orchestra and I practiced the Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks- and other “Pictures at an Exhibition” pieces this week. My favorite piece is Promenade and my least favorite is The Gnome

Q: Who do you admire?

A: I admire my ballet teacher, her patience is the most peaceful and encouraging aspect of practice. No matter how frustrated I get trying to learn choreography or master a move, she always brings her kindness to dance and she helps me to live through my movement.

Q: I know you’re a big reader—what’s your favorite book?

A: My favorite book is Flowers in the Attic by V.C Andrews. It is a bit of a disturbing book but it captivates me with the insane plots every time I reread. My favorite books tend to be mystery and horror!

You’ll never hear me complaining about scary books. People who know me are aware that my entire year revolves around Halloween. 🎃

Anyway, the site is a little quiet for the next week or so, and then we’ll be opening enrollment for the Community Orchestra Booster Pack (take 2), the Spring Studio Class, and early bird enrollment for the online summer program. Hopefully, I’ll have news about in person programming in the next week or two, as well!

Much love and cello-y solidarity,

Em
